Hostility, Hypocrisy, and Harm from the South

A video talk in two parts by Stuart H. Hurlbert

Board of Directors, Californians for Population Stabilization

presented at the Writers Workshop sponsored by The Social Contract, October 2007, Washington DC

The theme of this talk is simple:  Mexico is the major source of the problems caused by  illegal immigration and excessive legal immigration to the U.S., these problems are severe, and they reflect, in part, hostile intent on the part of the Mexican government and a significant fraction of Mexican citizens.

Then consider the Conclusions below. These will put the talk in perspective and provide the 'take home messages'.

Conclusions

1. The total number of immigrants, legal and illegal, is the biggest problem, at least from an environmental perspective.

2. Illegal immigration is easiest to reduce in the short term,  and it is a major driver of legal immigration.

3. Illegal immigration comes mostly (70%) from Mexico.

4. The Mexican government, a signficant fraction of the Mexican people, and an outspoken and possibly growing fraction of Mexican-Americans are showing increasing hostility and arrogance to the United States government and to the American people.

5. Mexican illegal aliens should be treated no differently than are illegal aliens from other countries. All should be treated humanely and their human and civil rights respected, as they are apprehended and deported.

6. Mexico and the Mexican government should be put on notice and targeted for hard, focused action - by Congress, by state governments, and by all NGOs and citizen action groups in the CIR (Comprehensive Immigration Reduction) movement. The options are many, and the means are there.

7. The video clips on violent crime by illegal aliens sometimes elicit comments like, "Well, such-and-such data indicate that illegals commit such-and-such crimes at rates not all that different from those of legal residents." Such claims are highly suspect given the quality of the data available and the great uncertainties about how many illegal aliens are present.

8. More importantly, such claims are beside the point. The federal government has little ability to reduce violent crime rates among legal residents directly and quickly. But with modestly increased enforcement of immigration laws, we can easily reduce violent crime by illegals by at least 90% by keeping them out, scaring them out, and busing them out.

9. Therefore, the blood is on the hands of the criminals themselves and "cowardly U.S. presidents, congressmen, mayors and police chiefs", as stated in the video, not on the hands of the illegal alien community as a whole. Most adults in that community are felons, but they are not violent felons.

10. More specifically, President Bush and the present U.S. Congress are in a very direct way responsible for the tens of thousands of murders, rapes and other assaults committed by illegal aliens against Americans  in recent years. They had the responsibility, knowledge and power to prevent most of that violence - and they failed  us miserably.
